CONSUMER RIGHTS & INSTRUCTIONS

Your counselor aims to provide services in a professional and ethical manner within accepted legal standards. If you are ever dissatisfied with your therapy, you are encouraged and expected to raise your concern with your counselor directly in an effort to address any problems as they occur.

In accordance with the Texas Health & Safety Code §181.105, a consumer has certain rights as listed below:

1) A client's entitlement to access their Personal Health Information (PHI) is specified in the Privacy Practices section under Resources.

2) A person who provides professional counseling services to clients must be licensed, unless exempted by state law. The Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council investigates and prosecutes professional misconduct committed by marriage and family therapists, professional counselors, psychologists, psychological associates, social workers, and licensed specialists in school psychology. Although not every complaint against or dispute with a licensee involves professional misconduct, the Executive Council will provide you with information about how to file a complaint if you believe it qualifies. If a reasonable resolution to a client's concerns cannot be reached, a complaint may be submitted to the Behavioral Health Executive Council (BHEC) using the complaint form https://bhec.texas.gov/complaints-enforcement-faqs/. The completed form can be sent by email to Enforcement@bhec.texas.gov or by mail to 1801 Congress Avenue, Suite 7.300, Austin, Texas 78701.

Receive a Good Faith Estimate

Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Services Act, a client has the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services rendered. A Good Faith Estimate will be provided upon the scheduling of your first session.
